Day 7 – Life Admin

Today I raised a white flag in surrender. We must rest! We both have a terrible cough and the sniffles. We decided it would be a day of ‘Life Admin’, as my friend Jaqui calls it. We spent time on the internet researching how to get to our next destination and made a plan for onward travel and accommodation for the next few days. We did some reading, sleeping, and probably most importantly, some laundry.

Last night we stayed at Cameronian Inn and weren’t overly impressed. You pay a basic room rate and then they charge extra for anything else on top of that – tea, coffee, towels, toilet paper, and even for the boiled water! Not ideal and certainly not our style. So when we took our clothes to the laundromat (in a pillowcase we borrowed from Cameronian Inn) we decided to check out some other places. We settled our bill, checked out, and that was that. Happy again… until we picked up our laundry hours later and found the stowaway pillow-case. Oops! We sheepishly returned it: “Sorry sir, I unpacked at our new Guesthouse (which is better than yours) and ‘found’ your pillow case. We thought we’d do the right thing and return it.” Needless to say, we had some very suspicious looks following us out.

For dinner we shared a Steamboat, which was an experience. Steamboat is basically a 'hot pot'; at the centre of the table the waiter places a little gas stove and a pot of simmering stock. Then you get a whole range of ingredients - thinly sliced meat, leafy veggies, tofu, fish, eggs, and mushrooms. You cook your own food! And it's amazing!   .

Well, here’s to an early night. Tomorrow we tackle the Highlands properly.

Until next time,
Luisa
