Early this morning we strapped on some colander shaped helmets and started up our transport for the day - The Pink Panther. The very underpowered, back firing scooter. The first thing we did was find a new place to stay. Our new abode was actually across the road and is more a bar/restaurant called Opium. At the price they were charging for a room (inc breakfast) I didn't really care.
We then zoomed of in a pink blur backfiring along the Koh Lanta coast line. We pulled into one of the pristine beaches and had some fruit and then continued on our journey in search of a swimming spot for the day. We had heard that the further south you go, the more secluded the beaches. We soon found out why. All of a sudden instead of nice flat roads we were facing steep cliffs! The pink panther would often only make it halfway up and then Luisa would have to jump off, run to the top and wait for me to sputter up. After the third time this happened we decided to call it quits and headed for a beautiful bay that we had spotted. We spent our morning beach bumming and on the way back filled up with a whiskey bottle full of petrol that's sold on the road side(yip that's how it's done here).
That afternoon we used our wheels to head towards Ban Saladan, the main settlement on Koh Lanta, to have a look around. There was a festival being set up on one of the school grounds so we decided to have a look see. There was nothing special but whilst we were walking around there was a guy jabbering away on a PA system until his phone started ringing. Instead of ignoring it he decided to take the call with the mic switched on and everybody within a 300 metre radius could listen to his conversation. I hope he wasn't setting up an appointment with his doctor to have an embarrassing lump checked out! Luisa's shoes that she has had since she was 13 broke while we were walking around (may they rest in pieces) so she had to walk around the streets barefoot. This is not ideal in Thailand, especially after a rain storm.
We ended the day having an ice cold Chang (for me) and gin and lemonade (Luisa) while watching the sun set. Another great day in paradise.
